A man arrested at Manchester Airport was due to appear in court today after a major international police investigation into people smuggling.

Kaiwan Poore, a 37-year-old Iranian-born UK national, was detained by police at the airport on Wednesday ahead of a flight to Turkey, the National Crime Agency said.

He was due to appear in court on Thursday after the operation targeting small boat people smuggling carried out by the NCA. He had been listed as wanted by the NCA, who were working with law enforcement partners in France to track him down, said a spokesman.

French prosecutors allege Poore is part of an organised crime network involved in people smuggling. Read more: 'You will be forever in our hearts' - Woman who died in city centre bus crash named as tributes paid A series of raids across Europe saw around 40 people arrested earlier this month.
