Lowry masterpiece ‘Going to the Match’ to go on display in Bury in 'must for all footy fans'

LS Lowry’s masterpiece ‘Going to the Match’ is going on display at Bury Art Museum as part of a celebratory exhibition around football and its fan culture.

From October 4 to March 1, 2025 the museum is hosting an exhibition celebrating the national game which will feature images of fans from a host of Greater Manchester and other north west teams.

The 1953 painting shows fans arriving for a Bolton Wanderers game at their former home, Burnden Park. Also on display will be iconic photographs of football fans of various teams from the North West, such as Bury FC, Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton, Liverpool, Oldham and Bolton.
