Johnstone Burgh relied on a spark from the bench to keep pace with the early WoSFL First Division leading pack. The big-spending Keanie Park club were 2-1 down heading into the final 15 minutes of Saturday’s eventful clash at Somervell Park.Ali Small had put Burgh in front in the first half with the visitors seeing two further goals chalked off before Cambuslang recovered and took a 2-1 lead into the half-time breather.Burgh were struggling to break down their stubborn hosts after the restart but with quarter-of-an-hour left, Jojo Gillespie stayed calm to net from the spot to level things up.That goal opened the floodgates, with Kieran Brophy and substitutes Hamish McKinley (two) and Dale Simeon all netting late on to seal three points. The win sees Burgh sit just adrift of joint-leaders Rutherglen Glencairn and Shotts Bon Accord – with manager Jamie McKim pleased to see his squad’s strength in depth eventually come to the fore.He said: “We had two goals disallowed in the first half and I still haven’t had a proper explanation for either.

Brophy’s free-kick in particular absolutely should have stood.“It was 1-1 at that point and those goals would have changed the complexion of the game entirely.“It was another two cheap goals that we conceded.

We still weren’t aggressive enough defending our box and it really should have been a clean sheet.“The substitutes we brought on really freshened us up and gave us that drive to go on and get the win.“They gave us that spark and made a big impact.

Our strength in depth showed and we’ll need that throughout the season.“We were without Graham Dorrans, who had an ankle complaint we didn’t think was worth risking, while Kyle Lafferty is still out.
