Jerry Lee Lewis, one of rock ‘n roll’s pioneers and a Hall of Fame member in several genres, died Friday morning at 87. Lewis died at a home in Memphis, TN, his publicist Zach Farnum said in a release.

He stands in the pantheon of rock ‘n roll’s greatest artists, but also crossed over to rockabilly, gospel, country, blues and even jazz.

Although he rarely wrote his own songs, his interpretation was his strength, as his keyboard dexterity and barely controlled passion transformed each work into something special.
