ITV's This Morning vet Dr Scott Miller has opened up about the deeply personal reason he chose his career path, revealing that his own autism diagnosis played a significant role.
Known for his appearances on the popular morning show, at home, Dr Miller is simply "Dad" to a bustling household that includes four children, two dogs, two cats, five chickens, a tortoise, a gecko, and some goldfish.
Scott acknowledges that he's definitely part of a "pet family," highlighting how animals significantly contribute to the wellbeing of his household. This is particularly true for him and his son and daughter, who also have autism. "There's certainly a huge benefit to having animals around us, because they're very calming," he explained. "An animal is often someone you can trust to read your moods, feelings and thoughts, especially if you tend to verbalise things in a different way. They can understand you on a very deep level." Scott added: "That's the reason why I became a vet.
As a child, way before I was diagnosed with autism, I struggled socially and realised the benefit of having animals around. They were so validating and supportive, and I wanted to give back to them by becoming a vet." Married to Zo Christien, Scott is a father to Summer, Quinn, Jackson, and Riley.
