A 71-year-old man died after being 'struck by a motorcycle' as he crossed the road, an inquest heard. Clive Staunton Smees, a retired security guard, died at the scene, following the collision in Haigh Road, Aspull, Wigan, on May 18.
At Bolton Coroner's Court today (Monday June 13) an inquest opened into Clive's death. Police coroner's officer Andrew Pickles said: "On May 18 2022, Clive was involved in a road traffic collision, where he was stuck by a motorcycle as he crossed Haigh Road, in Wigan.
Clive sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the attending doctor." READ MOR E: Man, 31, arrested as man fights for life after being punched outside nightclub A post mortem was carried out by Home Office forensic pathologist Dr Charles Wilson.
He recorded 'multiple injuries' as the provisional cause of Clive's death. Senior coroner Timothy Brennand told the court that a police investigation is underway but no charges are likely to be brought in the next 28 days.
