Rapid Bucharest chiefs have confirmed that talks are ongoing to bring exiled Rangers star Ianis Hagi to the club. The 25-year-old has been frozen out of the first team picture at Ibrox, with boss Philippe Clement making it no secret that the Romania international is not a part of his plans in the coming season.

Hagi spent the whole of 2023/24 on loan at Alaves in La Liga having previously fallen out of favour under Clement's predecessor Michael Beale in Govan.Following Neil Lennon's sacking on Tuesday after just six games in charge, Liga I side Rapid have moved quickly to bring in his successor, with vastly experienced coach and former Rapidistii favourite Marius Sumudica confirmed as the next man in the dugout.

And at the 53-year-old's presentation unveiling his appointment, the club's president Viorel Moldovan and minority shareholder Dan Sucu both revealed that they are working hard to sign Hagi, who has not played his football in Romania since leaving Viitorul for Genk in 2019.Sucu admitted that Rapid "really want" the playmaker while Moldovan went into much more detail, adding: "Ianis Hagi is a player of great value that I think every club wants.

We'll see, we have some discussions, we'll see how they go, I hope he'll be interested in coming to Rapid. That's the most important thing."Popular Romanian football agent Giovanni Becali - who is a close friend of Hagi and his legendary father Gheorghe - also says he would not be surprised to see Hagi end up at Rapid, but reckons that the move is a step down for the 39-time Romania cap at this point of his career.
