'I just want to make it so special for my dad': Daughter appeals for veterans to attend dad's funeral in Blackley

The daughter of a late Armed Forces veteran is appealing for military personnel and veterans to attend the funeral of her father, Kevin Heywood, who was a Lancashire Fusilier.

Trisha Heywood, 50, from Blackley, posted the appeal on Twitter, where she has received an outpouring of support and tributes.

Kevin sadly died of cancer on Thursday 7th October, aged 88. He was a member of the 1st Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers. Born in April 1933 at Beech Mount Maternity Hospital in Harpurhey, Kevin stayed true to his north Manchester roots.

When he was four years old, his father tragically died after falling off a very high ladder in Manchester, which was reported in the Manchester Evening News.
