'Hunger Games' Prequel Movie Gets Release Date, Cast Still Unknown

Lionsgate has officially announced a release date for the upcoming The Hunger Games prequel movie. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, which is based on the book of the same name by Suzanne Collins, takes place years before the action in The Hunger Games.

In this return to The Hunger Games, “years before he would become the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow sees a chance for a change in fortunes when he is chosen to be a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the girl tribute from impoverished District 12.” Click inside to read more… During Lionsgate’s session at CinemaCon, it was announced that the movie will be released in theaters on November 17, 2023.

The movie is currently in production, but no cast members have been announced yet. A teaser that played at the convention featured the words, “You’re invited to return to the Games… In 2023, the world will discover who is a songbird and who is a snake.” Francis Lawrence, who directed three of the movies in The Hunger Games franchise, is directing this one too.
