Hundreds of Scots jobs at risk as northern parcel delivery firm set to close

Hundreds of Scottish jobs have been placed at risk after a parcel delivery firm said it will be shutting down. Menzies Parcels provides courier services across Argyll, Aberdeenshire, and the Highlands and islands.But staff have been told that, from next month, the firm is set to cease operations as a result of "significant losses".

Almost 300 roles are understood to be at risk, with the development being shared with staff in a letter.Menzies Parcels employs around 270 people, with staff based at 15 depots across the country, including Oban, Fort William and Inverness, the BBC reports.In the letter, the company said: "The business has been incurring significant losses over the last two years and, having exhausted all other options, has come to the disappointing conclusion that it is no longer sustainable in its current form."Staff were told the last day of business for the delivery company will be February 29.
