The Chancellor has confirmed an extension to the Household Support Fund. The scheme helps millions of households across the country pay for bills, food, and other essential goods.
So far, the scheme has provided more than £2.5 billion in welfare support through local authorities. Initially, the scheme was set to end on March 31, however, Jeremy Hunt announced in the Spring Budget that it will now go on for an extra six months.
This provides vulnerable families more time to benefit from the support offered by local councils. Read more: Household Support Fund extended by six months 'with inflation battle not over' The chancellor confirmed that an extra £500 million would be provided to enable the Household Support Fund to continue in England between April and September 2024.
Mr Hunt told the House of Commons: "I have decided that with the battle against inflation still not over, now is not the time to stop the targeted help it offers.
