How attendance at mass is surging on lockdown as people seek hope in dark times

A huge number of people are tuning in to watch live videos of Mass from churches around Greater Manchester during the coronavirus crisis.

Livestreams of services from Salford Cathedral were viewed by over 10,000 people across the Easter Weekend, with viewers tuning in from more than 50 different countries.

On average, each Mass had a virtual attendance of around 1,500, many more than would usually turn out at the Chapel Street church.

Meanwhile, individual smaller churches across the region have also been embracing live videos to put out a range of messages to parishioners.
