Housing Minister Robert Jenrick is under pressure to resign over a media mogul’s £1billion planning application. New documents revealed how Mr Jenrick was “insistent” on fast-tracking the controversial development to save Tory party donor Richard Desmond £45 million in taxes.

The 129 pages of letters, emails and text messages released on Wednesday night outlined how Desmond urged Mr Jenrick to sign off the east London development scheme so that "Marxists" did not get "doe for nothing".

On January 14 Mr Jenrick approved the 1,500 homes project on the Isle of Dogs, 12 days before the former Daily Express owner — whose Northern & Shell group owns the 15.5 acre site — gave £12,000 to the Conservative Party. The approval came a day before a levy.
