Grieving mum's tribute to 'loving, caring son' who died after years struggling with alcohol

For the latest news from in and around Wigan sign up to the MyWigan newsletter here A man with a history of drinking problems died from alcohol poisoning just over a month after being discharged from rehab, an inquest has heard.

Jason Callaghan's girlfriend Susan Halliwell found him unresponsive in bed at her home in Masefield Road, Wigan, on April 29, 2020.

Ms Halliwell told Bolton Coroner's Court that the 42-year-old from Ashton-in-Makerfield would sometimes suffer alcohol-induced seizures.

Susan Stephenson, Mr Callaghan's mum, described her son as "loving, caring, a bit of a comedian, and a great cook". She also said that he had a "wide circle of friends that reflected his gregarious personality".
