Persistent rain is set to fall on Greater Manchester with a weather warning in force for the region. A yellow warning remains in force until midday today (May 23), with the Met Office suggesting roads, railways and power could all be affected at some stage.

Flooding could also take place, with 'deep floodwater' or fast flowing water posing the risk of 'danger to life', the Met Office adds.

A more severe amber weather warning had been in force earlier today, but has since been lifted. Meanwhile, the Environment Agency has issued three flood alerts for Greater Manchester, meaning flooding is 'possible' and residents should 'be prepared'.

The alerts cover areas close to the River Mersey in Stockport, Tameside and Trafford, and the Upper River Douglas in parts of Wigan and Bolton.
