'Greater Manchester is well prepared for coronavirus': Director for emergency planning urges people not to panic as more cases are confirmed in our region

As the ninth case of coronavirus was confirmed in Greater Manchester, a leading doctor urged people not to panic, insisting the region is well-prepared to deal with the outbreak.

Professor Kate Ardern, lead director for protection and emergency planning for the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) said there were 'robust infection controls' in place.

Her advice came as Greater Manchester's ninth case of the COVID-19 virus was confirmed on Wednesday (March 4). Three people from Bury and one person from Bolton have tested positive.

Two people who tested positive in Bury are known to a man from the area who also tested positive on Sunday, after flying from Milan to Manchester.
