Glasgow bomb threat: What happened as emergency services raced to city's east end

The discovery of a bomb threat in Glasgow today led to homes and businesses being evacuated, road closures and travel 'chaos' as Police Scotland continued to investigate the incident.

Officers rushed to Alexandra Park at 3.30pm on Thursday afternoon after a suspicious item was found inside a premises on Milnbank Street.A cordon was put in place following the evacuation of local businesses and residents who evacuated with police escort.

Parts of the M8 were closed during rush hour due to the bomb threat as train and bus services also faced disruptions and delays.

A report of a suspicious package in a building on Milnbank Street in Alexandra Parade was made to Police Scotland on Thursday afternoon.Officers rushed to the area at 3:30pm and were later joined by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and fire services.A Daily Record reporter at the scene heard police at the cordon telling locals that the 'possibly explosive' package is being examined.
