Five healthcare workers at an NHS hospital have been named and charged following a major investigation into the ill-treatment of patients.

Three nurses and two health care assistants from Blackpool Victoria Hospital will appear in court charged with alleged offences committed on the stroke unit.

They are charged with various offences between August 2014 and November 2018 including ill-treatment relating to the unlawful sedation of patients, conspiracies to ill-treat, as well as the theft and supply of medication.

Police from Lancashire Constabulary say they were contacted by Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in November 2018 after concerns were raised about the care provided to a number of patients.
