Four months of nightmare traffic could be the price that commuters in Westhoughton have to pay, if plans to save a railway bridge are given the green light.
Bolton Council have asked the Department for Transport (Dft) for £2,500,000 in funding to re-deck the bridge at Daisy Hill Railway Station, in Leigh Road.
The Town Hall and Network Rail would each also put in £250,000 if the funding bid is approved. In 2018, barriers were installed to on either side of the bridge's footpath in an effort to prolong its life and according to the application form, the 'Daisy Hill Station Bridge - Bridge Deck Replacement' project would prevent any permanent closure of what is a key commuter route.
