Delays on the M66 after crash and burst water main cause slow traffic

A burst water main has caused delays on the M66.One lane has had to be closed on the southbound carriageway between the A56 Ramsbottom junction and Junction 1 for Walmersley Road.This is currently causing delays of up to 15 minutes with congestion back into Haslingden.Traffic was leaving the road to the north at the point where it changes from the A56 to the M66 in Edenfield in order to avoid the motorway but a subsequent crash has caused further delays on that road.In a post on Twitter, a spokesman for Highways England said the collision was only minor but had forced authorities to close the slip road.They said: "The #A56 southbound slip road to continue on the A56 (to avoid the #M66 southbound) at where the A56 meets the M66 traffic has.
