Scots pensioner whose leg was saved from amputation during the coronavirus pandemic used a drone to say thanks to medical staff.James Donnelly, 72, had been rushed to hospital in May with a growth on his left thigh.Quick-thinking specialists diagnosed a rare form of bone cancer, and within days the tumour was removed.The grandad-of-one underwent a brutal nine-hour operation and it was touch and go at points whether or not his leg would survive the surgery.But thanks to the hard work of Mr Ashish Mahendra, who runs the Orthopaedic Oncology service at Glasgow Royal Infirmary (GRI), James is well on the road to recovery.Delighted grandson Kiaran, 16, decided to show his family’s gratitude in a thoroughly modern way, and sent a video of an NHS.
