Parents could get nearly £200 a month to help pay for extra costs with their children. The Disability Living Allowance (DLA) can be provided to help with the extra costs associated with looking after a child under the age of 16 who has difficulties walking or needs more looking after than a child the same age who doesn't have a disability.
Currently, parents can claim between £28.70 and £184.30 a week - how much you get will vary depending on the level of care your child requires.
There are three care components to DLA which determine how much you may get. The lowest rate is available for children who only need help for some of the day while the middle rate is for children who need frequent help or supervision during the day and night or need someone to help them while they're on dialysis.
Meanwhile, the higher rate is available for children who need help or supervision both day and night. The higher rate is also available for children when a medical professional has said they might have 12 months or less to live.
