Drugs Taskforce leader slams Scottish Government for forcing 'rushed job' by cutting deadline

The former boss of the Scottish Drug Deaths Taskforce has slammed the Scottish Government for cutting its deadline by six months.

The Record revealed just after Christmas that Professor Catriona Matheson walked out on the DDTF, claiming the Scottish Government was forcing the body to rush, putting projects and ultimately lives at risk.

She has now levelled stinging personal criticism at Scotland’s drugs policy minister Angela Constance, claiming she only attended two taskforce meetings.

The timing of Prof Matheson’s new comments is awkward for the Scottish Government, coming on the first anniversary of the National Mission to reduce drug deaths, which has been championed by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and Constance.
