A man who left his flea infested dog to suffer before its tragic death had a hole dug in the garden ready to bury it. David Littlefare made a call to the RSPCA requesting for his pet Pippa to be put down due to serious illness.

When a volunteer arrived at the 25-year-old's home, she found the white West Highland Terrier barely breathing and weak, covered in scabs and with rotting teeth.

Pippa died en route to the animal charity's Goole centre, Hull Live reports. Littlefare, of of Pearson Street, Goole, appeared before Hull Magistrates' Court on Friday (January 14) with his ex-girlfriend Olivia Watson, 22, of Moorland Road, Goole.

Both admitted to causing unnecessary suffering to a protected animal at Hull Magistrates' Court.Ms Louise Freeman, prosecuting, told the court that the volunteer believed the animal had been suffering for weeks, if not months, prior to her death.Ms Freeman said: "The poor condition the dog was in was quite distressing to her, she noticed clotting around the dog's back end, the ears had black substance in and around it, the dog was thin and smelled as though something was off."She was visibly underweight, her spine, ribs and hipbone were protruding.
