Plans to tear down part of the hated ‘Berlin Wall’ in Piccadilly Garden have been approved by the city council’s executive. Almost £2m will be made available for the long-awaited works - but Manchester council leader Sir Richard Leese has admitted that further investment will be needed.
He also said the money will stretch further than improving the Gardens and will cover other areas in need of work - including 'horrible' Parker Street and outside the nearby Morrisons.
But the demolition of the free-standing concrete wall, which splits the bus station from the grass turf which the council owns, will be the focal point of improvements.
