Parents in the north are paying close to £100 on school uniforms each year - despite the ongoing toll of the cost of living crisis causing them to cut down on other essentials.
The figures, released by George at Asda as part of their Back to School Survey 2022, found that 37 per cent of Manchester parents say they are concerned about the costs associated with getting their children ready for school in September.
Across the UK, families said they spend £86.05 on average a year kitting their child out for school, but the number rises in the north west with an average of £95.87.
In Manchester, the average sits at £96.89 - almost £20 more than the £76.42 region average in London. As a result, many families admitted to having to cut down on other essentials and luxuries in order to be able to afford new uniforms.
