But Lady McAlpine has told The Telegraph she didn’t trust the woman, who operated under the name Maria Adela. She says she would not have taken Adela’s attempts at friendship any further as she thought her to be “fake” and “self-invented”.
Maria Adela went on to infiltrate Nato’s naval headquarters by sleeping with officers stationed there while posing as a jet-set jewellery designer based in the Italian port city.
Lady McAlpine, 78, confirmed to The Telegraph that she met the would-be socialite on a number of occasions from around 2013.
