COP26 climate deal agreed to cut emissions after last-minute discussions

A deal has finally been agreed among the 197 nations taking part in the COP26 climate talk s after the conference ran over by an extra day in Glasgow - but many leaders have hit out over "watering down" of measures.

All of the nations involved in the conference have agreed to strengthen their emissions-cutting targets for 2030 by the end of next year, as well as accelerating efforts to "phase down" unabated coal and phasing out inefficient fossil fuel subsidies.Environmental campaigners have spoken out stating that the measures do not go far enough, with Greenpeace labelling the deal "weak".The important deal was reportedly watered down at the last minute, after India and China pushed for the "phasing out" of unabated coal to be changed to
