A four-year-old boy was given secret treatment to prevent a deadly water infection while he battled cancer at a crisis-hit hospital.It was an unguarded comment from a hospital cleaner that David Campbell still can’t forget.

As his four-year-old son James underwent gruelling chemotherapy at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital she told him to be careful – she wouldn’t wash a dog in the water at the children’s cancer unit.

Days later the dad and other parents, who started buying bottled water to wash their sick kids, watched as water filters were put on taps and air filters installed before being blindsided as hospital bosses suddenly shut the ward.
