Call for volunteers to help with charity's vital foot care service

A Paisley charity has launched a plea for volunteers to sign up to help deliver a vital service which helps hundreds of older people in the community.Roar - Connections for Life offers the popular Roar Do Feet service, which currently helps more than 400 pensioners in Renfrewshire look after their feet by cutting toenails and helping with other foot issues.But the lifeline service is facing being stretched to its limit as volunteers are struggling to keep up with the growing demand.It started back up after lockdown in June last year, with more than 200 people signing up for appointments.But that has now doubled, meaning the appointments are now at capacity.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.Staff at Roar are calling for people in Renfrewshire to sign up and volunteer to help them keep up with the services popularity.The clinics currently run in 12 different clinics throughout the local authority.Cara Murdoch, from Roar, said: “We really are in need of some more volunteers to join our team.“Without the volunteers we won’t be able to meet the huge demand for the service and won’t be able to reach as many older adults across Renfrewshire.“We are currently at capacity and this is a really important service which can make such a big difference to people.“Without some new volunteers we won;t be able to take any more bookings and help as many people as we would like to.”Roar began its service in 2015 when the NHS stopped doing toenail clipping and it has since become more than just about cutting toenails.Cara said cutting toenails can have a big impact on preventing falls and keeping older adults active.It can also provide a social lifeline for some older people who may be
