A LEADING road safety organisation is calling on the Government to increase the penalty for drivers and passengers who do not wear a seat belt on journeys.The call for offenders to be punished with points being added to their licence comes from GEM Motoring Assist, which has for many years lobbied the Government to introduce tougher seat belt offences.Now, with emergency services and hospitals at full stretch dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, the group says it is time to show everyone still out on the road that they must wear a seat belt on every journey.GEM road safety officer Neil Worth said: “Three penalty points for non-wearing of seat belts creates an effective deterrent.
