Brittany Howard unveiled her wailing take on Funkadelic's "You and Your Folks, Me and My Folks" for Spotify Singles on Wednesday (April 15).
On the rollicking cover, the Alabama Shakes frontwoman updates the lead single from the psychedelic rock outfit's classic 1971 album Maggot Brain as a clarion call for trust and unity in these increasingly precarious times. "But if in our fears, we don't learn to trust each other/ And if in our tears, we don't learn to share with your brother/ You know that hate is gonna keep on multiplying/ And you know that man is gonna keep right on dying," she intones over smoldering electric guitar and crashing drums on the track's first verse.
