A strikingly-designed £140m bright blue office block WILL be built in the city centre, it has been confirmed. The block — called Colloco after the Latin for ‘gathering’ — will be built on the former site of The Manchester College on New Quay Street.

The college left the site, built in 2000 near the border with Salford, to a new home near Strangeways in 2022. Developers HBD said the plans will ‘combine high end commercial workspace with wellness focused amenity facilities’ and ‘create a new benchmark for office developments within Manchester city centre’ as the St John’s part of town changes.

In recent years, it has gone from being an unloved corner of the city sandwiched between Spinningfields and the Irwell to the home of Aviva Studios and Enterprise City — a business hub.
