The BBC has taken the rare step of issuing a statement on an ongoing misconduct probe pertaining to one of its shows, Strictly Come Dancing and the Giovanni Pernice fallout.
The BBC has been gathering evidence in recent weeks as it examines serious complaints against a dancer widely understood to be Pernice from multiple claimants including, reportedly, Sherlock actor Amanda Abbington, who was partnered with Pernice last year but left the show after a few weeks citing medical reasons.
British legal firm Carter Ruck is understood to be representing Abbington and others. Issuing a rare statement yesterday, the BBC “urged people not to indulge in speculation,” adding: “Whilst we know our shows have been positive experiences for many of those who have taken part, we will always look at any issues raised with care, fairness and sensitivity to everyone concerned.” The statement added: “It is a longstanding position that the BBC does not comment on specific matters related to individuals.
