An awful clip of the X Factor judges berating an hopeful singer about her weight has gone viral and fuelled a backlash over how the show treated contestants.

The video, which is from 2004, shows the panel cruelly ripping into a singer called Samantha over her appearance. Head judge Simon Cowell rips into the young woman, despite admitting that she is a talented singer, before Louis Walsh jumps in and even Sharon Osbourne, who tries to be kind, ends up advising her to go on a diet.
