Fears have been raised bike thieves in the city centre are targeting hospital staff because few other people are cycling to work during the coronavirus lockdown.

There have been been several reports of bicycles ands bicyle parts being stolen from outside Manchester Royal Infirmary and the Children's Hospital over the last month.

In what is thought to be one of the latest incidents, cardiology registrar Charles Read discovered his Specialized Diverge gravel bike - which he bought secondhand for £700 - had been stolen after he clocked off from a shift at MRI on Friday.

Charles, 32, told the Manchester Evening News there appears to have been a 'big increase' in the number of thefts. He said: "I am pretty disappointing.
