Anthony Hopkins is speaking out about his role as Odin in the Thor films, calling it “pointless” acting.

The 85-year-old Oscar winner, who played the part of Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleton‘s Norse God father in a trio of Thor films, spoke candidly to The New Yorker about his role. Keep reading to find out more… In the feature, Anthony says that filmmakers “put me in armor; [and] they shoved a beard on me.” “Sit on the throne, shout a bit,” he went on. “If you’re sitting in front of a green screen, it’s pointless acting it.” Anthony‘s comments echo those of Sir Ian McKellen who also spoke about how miserable he was while working with mainly green screens for The Hobbit. “I was miserable,” he says. “It may be my impression but I don’t remember a green screen on The Lord of the Rings.

If Gandalf was on top of a mountain, I’d be there on the mountain. The technology was being invented while we were making the film. [In The Lord of the Rings] I wasn’t involved in any of that, I was away acting on a mountain.

I tend not to remember the bad times, but I don’t think there were any. I think I enjoyed every single moment of making those films.” In a recent interview, Anthony also revealed that he was almost on the verge of retirement before Thor.
