Andy Burham has slammed 'frankly disgraceful' claims made about his wife in a lengthy and detailed 'personal' statement issued regarding Clean Air Zone plans.

The controversial scheme to charge owners of certain vehicles has now been delayed. Under the initial plans, drivers of 'non-compliant' vans and taxis would have been charged when driving into, or within, Greater Manchester from May. The plans are aimed at slashing high levels of air pollution in the area - but have sparked a number of angry protests. Greater Manchester leaders have now been given until July to submit a revised plan.

Mr Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, issued a statement running to over 1,000 words on Friday evening - and called for the debate to be 'reset'.
