Michael Beale has challenged keepers Jon McLaughlin and Robby McCrorie to prove he doesn’t have to buy a new No.1 for Rangers in the summer - as he hinted strongly Allan McGregor’s time at Ibrox is coming to an end.The Gers boss insisted last week that McGregor is the best goalkeeper in the country - and will be back between the sticks in Perth on Saturday after being benched at Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

But Beale doesn’t appear to think the 40-year-old will have another season in him after his contract expires at the end of the current campaign. He said: “It’s clear that at the end of the season we need to either bring a goalie in or make sure we make a decision on either Jon or Robby to be number one.

We’ve not had that conversation but I’m sure Allan is of an age where he’s thinking about coming nearer to the end. He’s obviously out of contract as well.

I think Allan played well at the weekend. I think there’s a noise around our goalkeeper situation but I wasn’t here in the first half of the season when those things happened.“Maybe if we hadn’t played 120 minutes at the weekend we might have stuck (with McGregor against Killie) but it was the right thing to do.
