Mindless attacks on cold water swimmers at Salford Quays could lead to someone being drowned, it is feared. Gangs of youths, as young as 15 and 16, have been hurling bottles and stones at them.

People taking part in open water swimming and paddleboarding sessions organised by Salford Watersports Centre have been targeted.

Some of the yobs even jumped into the water in a bid to "bomb" swimmers and try to land on them. Staff from the Watersports Centre who asked the group to stop throwing missiles were met with a hail of abuse and threats.

Now police and council bosses have decided to take action. Read more: Salford Quays residents left confused after signs for 'Trafford' appear on streets Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police are reviewing CCTV footage to identify and deal with those involved.
