McDonald's fans across the country can officially get excited as the chain has announced when Monopoly will return to stores - and this year there is a twist.

The fast-food giant has confirmed the popular game will officially make its long-awaited return to stores next month. The promotion will return all stores across Scotland the rest of the UK on Wednesday, September 7.

That means foodies have just less than a month to wait before they can enjoy their favourite McDonald's order with a side order of some potentially neat prizes.

Similar to the iconic board game, each Monopoly piece represents a road or a train station. Once a full set has been collected, you can get a free prize - usually a free McFlurry or apple pie. While the food chain has yet to confirm what prizes will be on offer this year, they have confirmed this year's promotion will offer fans more chances to win with a brand new exciting feature. This year will see the introduction of a 'double-peel' feature which will allow customers to collect game pieces in store and on the app which will feature a digital virtual game board and prize wallet. The popular promotion's return comes just after the fast-food giant announced it would be hiking some of its prices for the first time in 14 years, with the classic 99p cheeseburger increasing by 20p.McDonald's launched its now iconic in store promotion back in 2005 and it works fairly similar to the classic family board game that we all know and love.Customers can collect game pieces on select orders they purchase which can then be used to win some free prizes. Each game piece works like a sticker that can be peeled from the packaging of your food to reveal some prizes.
