Amanda Holden
Amanda Louise Holden (born 16 February 1971) is an English media personality, actress, television presenter, singer, and author. She has judged on the television talent show competition Britain's Got Talent since the show began its run in 2007 on ITV. As an actress, Holden played the role of Mel in Kiss Me Kate (1998–2000), Geraldine Titley in The Grimleys (1999-2001), Sarah Trevanion in Wild at Heart (2006–2008), Lizzie, the Ring Mistress, in Big Top (2009), and the title role in Thoroughly Modern Millie, for which she was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award.

'Woefully neglected' armed forces base had 'no hot water or heating' for soldiers returning from active service

A councillor has claimed serving soldiers returned to a military base in Bury which had ‘no heating or hot water’. Councillors heard that reservists based at Bury's Castle Armoury, also known as the Drill Hall, returned from active service and training to appalling conditions prior to the building being closed last month for safety reasons.

The comments, by Labour councillor Spencer Donnelly came as a campaign was launched to save Castle Armoury and keep the historic building open for future generations.

Councillors of all parties have urged the Ministry of Defence to provide the money to save the Grade II listed town centre base, which was closed by its trustees last month due to safety concerns. It is also the base for Bury’s Army cadets, RAF cadets, a community karate group, and the Armed Forces veterans’ breakfast club.
