Two women taken to hospital after five hurt in crash at busy junction

Two women have been taken to hospital after a crash at a busy junction in Salford. Emergency services responded to the smash at the junction of Bury New Road and Great Cheetham Street West at about 7.30pm this evening (Wednesday, February 23).

The extent of their injuries are not yet known. A GMFRS spokesperson said: “At around 7.30pm this evening, we received reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Great Cheetham Street West and Bury New Road, Salford, involving two cars and five casualties. “Two fire engines from Manchester Central and Broughton fire stations and a technical rescue unit from Ashton-under-Lyne attended the scene and used specialist equipment to make the vehicles safe. “Two women were conveyed to hospital by North West Ambulance Service. "Crews were on the scene for approximately one hour.” Greater Manchester Police has been approached for further information.
