The Tory group on Rochdale council has now been swelled to 12 following the move by West Heywood councillors Jacqui Beswick and Alan McCarthy.

The pair left Labour in 2019 with Coun Beswick, a one-time deputy leader, opting to sit as an independent after falling out with the party at local and national level.
