Coronation Street actress Lorna Laidlaw, who plays Bailey family matriarch Aggie Bailey has reportedly quit the soap more than 12 months after her last appearance on the cobbles. The 61-year-old star, who became most well known for playing Mrs Tembe in the medial soap Doctors for eight years, last appeared on the show in summer 2023 and has been absent from a number of the Bailey family's major storylines.

After last being seen on screen on 12 June 2023, the actress didn't return as part of the storyline in which her son Michael lost his job and was wrongly arrested, nor when her on-screen husband found the body of murder victim Leo Thompkins on his building site.

It was explained when she Aggie left Weatherfield that she had gone to look after her unwell aunt in Birmingham. The family has also had a number of other big storylines that Aggie has missed in the months since, including Ed Bailey's relapse into gambling addiction, which saw him sell off all the family's Christmas gifts and almost lose the family home.

His and Aggie's children Michael (played by Ryan Russell) and Dee-Dee (played by Channique Sterling-Brown) encouraged their dad to tell Aggie, and after he returned from a visit to her in Birmingham, viewers learned the couple had separated. The Sun is now reporting that any chances of a reconciliation and a return for Aggie are as good as nil, and that actress Lorna has now signed up for the new series of a major new TV drama.
