When Raheem Sterling hits the pitch tonight, the memory of his tragic dad will be spurring his bid for glory. Friends in his native Jamaica have said the forward, 26, is determined to make his relatives proud.

And he especially wants to honour dad Phillip Slater - who was shot dead in Jamaica when Raheem was two and who never got to see him kick a ball.

Manchester City player Raheem was just a tot when Phillip was gunned down in Kingston after being wrongly caught up in a gang turf war.The star came under fire during the World Cup in 2018 after getting an assault rifle tattoo on his right leg - his shooting leg - as a tribute.
