Ralf Rangnick is reportedly eyeing up Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel Akanji amid suggestions he could leave the Bundesliga club this summer.
Dortmund are set to bring in Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule at the end of the season on a free transfer, which has raised questions over Akanji’s future with the club.
The 26-year-old has been a regular this season, but could well end up making way for Sule, with United said to be keen on taking Akanji off Dortmund’s hands.
According to Bild, Sule had been Rangnick’s ‘number one candidate’, but with the Germany international instead heading to the Westfalenstadion instead, the interim United boss has turned his attentions to Akanji.
