Pet names rise and fall in popularity over the years, but it seems as though traditional names for our dogs are falling out of fashion.Rover.com has launched its annual Pet Name Report for 2022, and it shows that human names such as Mike, Katy and even Gary are becoming more popular with dog owners.Because of this, classic choices such as Fluffy, Champ and Lassie are falling by the wayside, as the data shows that people want to choose something more relevant to today's pop culture and trends.

Mike was revealed to be the top trending dog name of 2022, based on data from millions of user-submitted pet names on Rover.com.

This was closely followed by the likes of Preston, Smokey and Mabli. The report, celebrating its 10th anniversary, reflects themes from 2022 including sports, pop culture, royalty and politics showing where Brits take inspiration when naming their dogs.

After they made history during the Women's Euros, the Lionesses seemed to be an inspiration in more ways than one. Leading goal scorers (Fran) Kirby and Beth (Mead) topped the trending list of names from the team, both trending upwards by 306% and 81% respectively.
