After initially choosing to hold the event in a virtual form due to the coronavirus, COVID-19 pandemic, it turns out that the Tony Awards have been postponed amid the ‘ongoing racism and injustices’ that have been in the forefront of everyone’s minds since the senseless murder of George Floyd.
Check out the details! Earlier today, it was announced by Broadway on Demand CEO/President Sean Cercone that the new streaming platform meant for all lovers of theater to enjoy will no longer broadcast the Tony Awards next week on Sunday when it was originally scheduled to take place.
That being said, it looks like this decision had a lot to do with the Black Lives Matter protests. ‘We are collectively equally saddened and angered by the senseless.
