The Manchester Duck Race has been cancelled this year due to the 'current unprecedented situation surrounding coronavirus'. The event has taken place every Easter weekend for the last 10 years, drawing in crowds and raising money for charity.

This year's, which should have been going ahead on Friday April 10, has been called off today. The duck race support Brainwave, a charity that helps children with disabilities to achieve greater independence.

A statement posted on Brainwave's website said: "Due to the current unprecedented situation surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19) and the steps that we anticipate the government will be taking soon, around public gatherings, it seems very unlikely that we will be permitted to proceed with this event
